Artist Statement

Natural Elements are evocative subjects of texture and form. When I observe and consider a feature, it can lead me to take a new perspective of it. I try to capture the emotion it engenders, a reflective representation of what is seen and felt.

I enjoy working in a variety of media and like to recycle and utilise materials already available. Sometimes this can drive a design, all that is required is an arrangement of the materials' possibilities.

When I have a piece of stone for example, I will spend time with it and a design will emerge, which is developed as I start to carve. On other occasions, materials are obtained to complete a specific design and often evolve as I create the piece.

It is important to me that the work I create is practical, permanent and in harmony with the material, the form and its location, to last and be enjoyed.
